A pediatric pulmonologist, is a medical doctor who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory and lung conditions in children, including infants, toddlers, children, and adolescents. These conditions may include asthma, cystic fibrosis, chronic lung disease, pneumonia, bronchitis, and other respiratory infections.

Pediatric pulmonaryists have specialized training in pediatric medicine and pulmonary medicine. They use a range of diagnostic tests such as pulmonary function tests, imaging studies, and bronchoscopy to diagnose and evaluate the extent of the respiratory condition.

Pediatric pulmonaryists work with a team of healthcare professionals, including pediatricians, nurses, and respiratory therapists, to develop a comprehensive treatment plan. Treatment may include medications, oxygen therapy, and other interventions, depending on the specific condition and the child’s age and overall health.

In addition to treating patients, pediatric pulmonaryists may also conduct research to improve the understanding and treatment of respiratory conditions in children. They may also educate patients and their families about the importance of early diagnosis and treatment for respiratory conditions.

To become a pediatric pulmonaryist, one must complete a medical degree, a residency in pediatrics, and a fellowship in pediatric pulmonary medicine. Certification by the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Board of Pediatrics Pulmonology is also required.
